Blocking/Unfriending

Velvet gives you full control over who can contact you.
If someone makes you uncomfortable or you simply don’t want to stay connected, you can block or unfriend them at any time — no explanation needed.

You can remove a friend from anywhere you see their profile, including:

  • 1:1 chat header

  • Friend list

  • Explore

  • Map/ListView

  • Profile preview

How to unfriend:

  1. Open their profile

  2. Tap the three dots

  3. Choose Remove friend

After unfriending:

  • They can’t message you anymore

  • You no longer appear in each other’s friend list

  • They can still send a new friend request later (if they are not blocked)

How block someone

Blocking is stronger than unfriending.

You may block a user:

  • In a 1:1 chat (via header → Block)

  • In Explore or Map (profile → Block)

  • In a Group (Admins can block members; members can block anyone individually)

What happens when you block someone:

  • They can’t see your profile

  • They can’t send you messages

  • They can’t add you

  • They can’t see you on Explore or Map

  • You won’t appear in any mutual lists

  • You won’t receive any content from them (messages, groups, pins)

Blocking is private — the user does NOT get notified.

Where to see all blocked users

Go to:

Profile → Settings → Privacy → Blocked Users

Here you can:

  • View all blocked accounts

  • Unblock someone if you ever change your mind

Unblocking restores the ability to:

  • See each other

  • Add each other

  • Interact normally again

(Unfriending does not automatically unblock someone — blocking is stronger.)

Blocking in Groups

Both Admins and Members can block users.

If YOU block someone:

  • You won’t see their messages

  • They won’t see yours

  • They cannot add you

  • They cannot interact with you anywhere

If an ADMIN blocks a user from the group:

  • The user is also blocked app-wide

  • They are removed immediately from the group

  • They cannot rejoin unless unblocked

Admins find blocked group members under:
Group Header → Blocked Users

When should I block someone

Block immediately if a user:

  • Makes you uncomfortable

  • Sends abusive or inappropriate messages

  • Harasses you

  • Crosses your boundaries

  • Asks for money

  • Sends unsafe content

  • Violates Community Rules

And always feel free to report them — blocking does not send a report.

Does blocking remove Chat history?

No — blocking does not delete your chat history.

But:

  • You will not receive new messages

  • The conversation becomes inactive

  • You can delete the chat manually if you want it gone

Can a Blocked User ever Contact me again?

Only if you unblock them manually.

Once unblocked:

  • They may see your profile again

  • They may send a friend request

  • They may appear on Explore or Map again

Unfriending ≠ Unblocking.
