Chat & Messages
Chatting on Velvet is simple, private, and always based on mutual friendship.
Here’s everything you can do inside a 1-to-1 chat.
Where can I start the chat?
You can chat only after both users accepted each other as friends. The chat opens automatically
No swipes, no matches.
Just: Add → Accept → Chat.
Who can message me?
Only your approved friends can send you messages.
People you added but who haven't accepted yet → cannot message you
People who added you but you didn’t accept yet → cannot message you
Blocked users → cannot contact you in any way
What happens if I unfried someone?
If you remove a friend:
The chat stays visible for both sides (for history)
Neither of you can send new messages unless you become friends again
You can send a new Friend Request anytime, even if a previous one was declined or deleted.
Can I delete a Chat or messages?
Velvet currently allows full chat deletion, not individual message deletion.
Delete the entire chat
To delete a full chat from your device:
Open the chat
Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner
Select “Delete Chat”
➡️ The chat disappears for you, but it remains visible for the other person.
Use Report User — Velvet’s Safety Team will review the chat and take action if necessary.
Can I block someone?
Yes. Blocking immediately stops all contact.
A blocked person:
Cannot message you
Cannot see your profile
Cannot find you in Explore or Map
Is removed from your friend list
You can unblock them anytime.
What if I delete my account?
When you delete your Velvet account, your entire chat history is permanently removed.
This means:
All your messages disappear from the chat
Your profile is removed
Your name, photos, and all interactions are erased
The conversation will look as if you were never part of it
The other person will NOT see any message like “User deleted account.”
Your presence simply disappears from their chat.
Deleted accounts cannot be restored and all purchases (Boosts, Pins, Ghost Mode) remain non-refundable.
Does Velvet read my messages?
No.
Velvet does not access your chats unless you file a report involving:
Harassment
Minors
Violence or threats
Scams
Illegal content
We do not scan or monitor messages automatically.
What can I send in a chat?
You can send:
Photos (from gallery or camera)
Documents (PDF, files, etc.)
Links (URLs become tappable)
This makes chatting flexible — whether it’s casual, fun, or for planning a meetup.
