Friends Request/Adding People

Velvet’s Map and List View help you discover people who are near your approximate location.
Your exact address is never shown — distances and map positions are always softened for privacy.

How do I add someone on Velvet?

You can send a friend request in several ways:

A) From Explore

  • Tap Add on any profile card.

B) From Map

  • Tap a location bubble → profile opens → tap Add Friend.

C) From List View

  • Tap Add next to the user.

D) From VelvetVibe (Pins)

If someone posts a Pin:

  • Tap their profile photo → their profile opens → tap Add Friend.

When can I start chatting

You can chat only after both users become friends.

Once a request is accepted:

  • A 1:1 chat opens automatically

  • Both users appear in each other’s Friends List

Where do I see my incoming friends requests?

Inside Explore, under Friend requests:

  • All pending requests

  • Buttons to Accept or Delete

All requests — whether sent from Explore, Map, List View or Pins — appear here.

Accepting or Declining requests

Accept

  • You become friends instantly

  • Chat opens

  • You can start messaging immediately

Decline

  • The request disappears

  • The user is not notified

  • They can send a new request at any time

Declining does not block the user.

Can I send or receive a request again after one was deleted?

Yes.
Velvet allows new requests anytime.
People can change their mind — the app supports that.

What happens if someone adds me while I’m in Ghost Mode?

Ghost Mode hides your profile from:

  • Map

  • List View

  • Explore

  • Online status

However, you can still receive friend requests if:

  • The user saw your profile before you activated Ghost Mode

  • They interacted with your Pin

  • They interacted with you inside a group chat (your profile picture is visible there)

Ghost Mode never blocks connection features — it only hides your visibility.

Removing Friends

Go to the user’s profile → 3 dots Remove Friend.

This will:

  • Remove the chat for both users

  • Remove each other from the Friends List

  • Allow new friend requests later if desired

The other person is not notified.

Blocking Users

Blocking is stronger than deleting a request.

Profile → 3 dotsBlock Usedr

Blocking will:

  • Hide your profile from the person

  • Prevent them from sending requests

  • Remove them from your chats and Friends List

  • Add them to Profile → Settings → Privacy → Blocked Users

Reporting Users

If someone violates Velvet’s rules, you can report them:

Profile → 3 dots → Report

Choose a category such as:

  • Harassment

  • Discrimination

  • Sexual misconduct

  • Illegal behavior

  • Fake identity

  • Other

For faster and clearer review:

If possible, include screenshots or context so the Velvet team can evaluate the situation accurately.

Serious violations lead to immediate removal.

Will users know if I decline, block, or remove them?

No. Never.

Velvet does not notify users about:

  • Declined requests

  • Removed friendships

  • Blocks

  • Deleted chats

Your actions remain private.
