Groups Admin Guide

Admins have full control over the groups they create.
Here is everything an admin can do inside a Velvet group.

Creating a Group

When creating a group, the admin chooses:

  • Group name

  • Group description

  • Group photo

  • Group type:

    • Public Group → Anyone can join instantly

    • Private Group → Users must request access

After creating the group, the admin is automatically the owner and has full control.

Group settings (Header Menu)

Admins manage all group settings from the group header at the top of the chat.

Here an admin can:

• Change the group photo

Tap the header → choose a new image from your device.

• View Media / Documents / Links

All shared content is automatically categorized.

• Turn Notifications ON/OFF

Useful if the group is very active.

• Switch Public / Private

Change the group type at any time.

• Access Blocked Users (for this group)

Unblock users if needed.

• Delete the group (admin only)

When an admin deletes the group:
→ The entire group disappears for all members.
→ No new admin is chosen.

Admins cannot leave the group — only delete it.

Leaving a group

Admins cannot leave a group.

They can only:

  • Continue as admin

  • Or delete the group entirely

There is no “auto-assign new admin” system.

Member Management

Under Header → Members, the admin can see all members.

Admin actions:

• Add Members

Tap + Add Member → opens your Friends List → select users to add.

• Manage Individual Member Permissions (long press)

Long-press on a member to:

  • Allow or restrict messaging

  • Remove the member from the group

  • Block the member from the group

  • Report the member

(Important: admins can report users, but cannot report the group.)

Group Wide permissions

Under Header → Permissions, the admin can decide:

  • Allow all members to write

  • Only admin can write

This is simply done by checking or unchecking the permission box.
Default: all members can write.

Sharing sensitive content

Admins must ensure their group follows Velvet’s safety standards.
You may remove or report users who violate these rules.

Allowed:

  • Consensual adult content

  • Friendly, respectful interactions

Not allowed:

  • Any involvement of minors

  • Violence or threats

  • Illegal or dangerous activity

  • Non-consensual sharing of private images

  • Harassment, discrimination, sexual pressure

  • Spam, scams, fraud

Important:

Admins are not legally responsible for user actions —
but they are expected to act quickly when violations occur.

Admins can:

  • Remove the user from the group

  • Block the user (app-wide block)

  • Report the user to Velvet

Velvet reviews all reports immediately and may permanently remove accounts.

Join Requests

In private groups, admins will see a bell icon inside the chat.

Tap the bell to:

  • Approve a join request

  • Decline a request

Deleting Messages & Chats

In private groups, admins will see a bell icon inside the chat.

Tap the bell to:

  • Approve a join request

  • Decline a request

Blocked Users

When an admin blocks a member inside a group:

  • The user is blocked across the entire app, not only in the group.

  • The blocked user can no longer:

    • View the admin’s profile

    • Send friend requests

    • Chat

    • See them on Map, Explore or Pins

    • Rejoin the group unless unblocked

Blocked users appear in two places:

a) Group Header → Blocked Users

Shows users who were blocked from inside this group.
Here the admin can Unblock them.

b) Profile → Settings → Privacy → Blocked Users

Shows all blocked users across the entire app, including those from group blocks.

Unblocking a user in either place will remove the block everywhere.
